Honestly, I don't foresee too many more updates being made here. AP's Superman Watchdog forum has absorbed the majority of posters from here and so maintaining this blog would be, at best, redundant.

Reconsidering Homecoming, Episode #200

Homecoming, Smallville's 200th episode, airs tomorrow night. The conjecture is that we may see Tom Welling playing a future version of Superman and wearing The Suit.

Either way, the show's been firing on all cylinders and has been a lot more interesting than the reboot sounds so far. Speaking of which, keep an eye out for a poll here concerning casting for the film.

Zack Snyder is directing the Superman reboot

As you all have no doubt been made aware, the Superman reboot apparently has a director: Zack Snyder.

At this point, we know that Chris Nolan is producing the film, David Goyer is writing it and now Snyder is directing it.

The entire purpose of this effort is far from complete however. What kind of script is Goyer writing? Is it something that pays tribute to the character and his history? Or is it yet another attempt at "modernization"?

To what extent will Nolan's influence be felt upon the production?

Will Nolan and Snyder be able to put aside their jaded view of humanity so prevalent in their respective films and emphasize the warmth, optimism and hope that have defined Superman for decades?

Can we at least be sure that Blandon Routh won't be coming back?

This is far from over.

The Superman Supersite has posted several pictures which were taken on Monday, 08.16.2010 as members of the 'Smallville' cast and crew shoot scenes from Episode 200, Homecoming.

While not too heavily spoilery, the clothing and the location of the shoot could indicate a flashback or perhaps two of the characters going out on assignment to a location that the 'Smallville' production has not been to in quite some time.

Sam and Lucy are coming back

General Sam Lane (Michael Ironside) and Lucy Lane (Peyton List) are coming back to 'Smallville'. K-Site and other places are running with that.

I'm interested to see what's coming, to be honest. We haven't seen either of those characters since the unspeakably lousy season 4. The series is usually good at bringing characters back and coming up with an intelligent justification for doing so. Most of the time. Let's hope this is no different.

The gossip is that Sam's return somehow is related to Lex Luthor. Dare we hope?

Anyway. Episode airs in October.

Smallville season 10- The Suit is a go!

This video was shot at Comic Con by an enterprising audience member. To my knowledge, this is the best quality version of the season 10 portion of the footage that's out there.

It seems clear that at some point or another this season, Tom Welling will actually wear The Suit. My guess? Episode 200 airs pretty early this season. That might be an ideal spot for that to happen. That's only speculation on my part though.

As I personally feel less and less enthusiasm for the Nolan/Goyer reboot as time goes by and more stories leak out, it looks like 'Smallville' is pretty much the centerpiece of my Superman fandom these days. So here's hoping.

First look at Maxwell Lord and more!

Smallville returns on Friday April 2nd at 8PM Eastern with a new episode of Smallville. The episode, "Escape" deals with Lois and Clark taking a vacation at a Bed & Breakfast when a few unexpected guests show up. The above imagine is a scene in an upcoming episode which introduces the DC character, Maxwell Lord. Read the text on the above picture for more information.

Ausiello has unveiled that the Grim Reaper is visiting Smallville again this year to kill off another major character in the season finale. He gives some hints on the possible death in which you can read here:

The Smallville writers (Through Twitter) has recently announced that the filming up the season finale, "Salvation" has began on Tuesday. It is said to be "Epic" and will also feature at least one member of the JSA.

Nolan and Goyer Confirm Involvement on Superman Movie

The LA Times has gotten confirmation from Christopher Nolan and Goyer will indeed be working on the next Superman "reboot". Here are some quotes from the article:

"It's very exciting, we have a fantastic story," Christopher Nolan said while sipping tea in the sleek editing suite that fills the converted garage adjacent to his Hollywood home. "And we feel we can do it right. We know the milieu, if you will, we know the genre and how to get it done right."

Goyer added:

"He basically told me, 'I have this thought about how you would approach Superman,' " Nolan recalled. "I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I've never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way."

Some exciting news tonight folks. According to Ausiello, Smallville season 10 is almost certainly happening:

EW's "Ausiello Files" has this update on a possible 10th season...

Question: Crazed fans like myself desperately need an update on Smallville's renewal. How's it looking? Any idea what the hold-up is?

Ausiello: It's looking really, really good. And the hold-up is due to boring stuff like contracts and money.

Also Superman Homepage is reporting that the CW is close to nailing a deal to get Michael Rosenbaum back as Lex Luthor for 9-10 episodes next season. Check out the article here:

David Goyer Hired To Write Superman: The Man of Steel

Webhead2006 has brought an interesting article to my attention. According to the Latino Review, David Goyer has been hired to pen the next Superman movie. The movie will be called "The Man of Steel" and will involve a plot around both Lex Luthor and Brainiac and apparently the Daily Planet is going through a tough time.

Michael McKean returns as Perry White in Smallville

Season 10 sounds "most likely":

Smallville Season 10: Things Are Looking Even Brighter...

Today The CW held their part of the Television Critics Association press tour, and several journalists caught up with CW Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff to discuss the prospects of Smallville going for a tenth season.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, Ostroff sounds optimistic about the show's chances, and seems pleased with the show creatively. But regarding whether or not the show will be back for another year, Ostroff says the decision will come in May. "[The producers] haven’t even pitched us the last episodes yet, so we haven’t even gotten to how we’re going to deal with the last episode and whether it’s a season finale or series finale," Ostroff said to Ausiello. "But right now, I think it’s just a season finale."

Ostroff also made chances sound good in an interview with IGN's Eric Goldman. "If the show doesn't come back, I think it will be a sort of really last minute decision, because either development [for new series] was great or the show wasn't doing as well on Friday nights. But we still have a whole half a season to go before we have to determine that," she said.

So, while no official decision has been announced, at least things ARE sounding good.

Superman put on hold, indefinitely

In what came today as incredibly disappointing news to Superman fans waiting for the next addition to the Superman franchise, IGN has learned that Warner Brothers currently has no plans for a new Superman movie as of now and that the franchise has been put on hold while the company juggles with their legal issues. 'Smallville' TV movie takes flight, Pandora clip & more!

Today the CW has unveiled that they will be turning the two-part Justice Society of America, Geoff John episodes into a made-for-tv movie that will air on January 29th. I am also hearing that the budget has been slightly increased for this double episode movie. More details can be found here:

Clois, Jor-El, Watchmen, Glasses and more!

For me, season eight of Smallville wasn't exactly the quality I was expecting from Smallville. The budget was obviously low, Chloe was intertwined with characters like Brainiac and Doomsday and overall the writing was downright bad at certain times. Season eight has some fantastic moments as it did horrible moments.

I went into season nine not expecting a whole lot of improvement in terms of budget and storytelling and thankfully, five episodes in I can tell you that so far I have been blown away by the increase in the show's quality.

While the budget is exactly the same as last season, it seems as if the producers have discovered away to get more out of the budget they have to work with. Beyond that the writing has greatly improved so far with only a few small things to nitpick at.

Season nine of Smallville has brought the show much more closer to the heroic Superman we all know Clark Kent to be in the comics and lately we have been getting a ton of information and stories regarding what we can expect in the rest of the season this year and man is there a lot to look forward to. Geoff John confirm's two part "epic"

Today we have gotten confirmation from legendary comic writer, Geoff John that his next Smallville story will arrive in not one but two episodes. Glen Winter will be directing his first episode, "Society" while Tom Welling will be directing the second episode, "Legend". Here is what Geoff John had to say about his episodes:

geoffjohns0 yes, my "society" episode of smallville is actually an insane dcu infused two-part epic. Part i is "society" and part ii is "legends."

Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders made this happen. They wanted it to be HUGE and they wanted Hawkman, Dr. Fate and Stargirl done right.

Glen Winter is directing "Society" and Tom Welling is directing "Legends." They both brought so much to Legion.

The show producers wanted to make an epic two part episode and that Geoff Johns was happy to do it. We also can confirm some more episode titles for you:

Justice Society Heroes Unveiled

I think it's safe to say that most Smallville fans and comic book fans in general are eagerly anticipating Geoff John's next Smallville episode, "Society". Today IGN has confirmed that Michael Shanks (most known for his role on Stargate SG-1) will be playing the character, "Hawkman" in the episode and Brent Stait will be playing, "Doctor Fate". Finally Britt Irvin will be playing the character, "Stargirl".

Actor confirm's "Cat Grant" coming to Smallville

It's been a very slow news month for Superman fans but today we have confirmation that "Cat Grant" will be making a Smallville appearance as I speculated a little while back. Actor, "Emilie Ullerup" has confirmed in a podcast that she will be playing the iconic role in the episode "Crossfire".

James McTeigue on Superman's future

FirstShowing.net recently interviewed James McTeigue about his upcoming film The Raven but tossed in a few questions about his rumored involvement with the next attempt at Superman.

Back on the topic of another Superman movie, I asked James if there was any truth to that rumor that he, or the Wachowskis, might be involved in another movie. His answer started out short and sweet: "Maybe some truth to… I've had some discussions, the Wachowskis to a lesser degree, but the Superman franchise is in a strange kind of place at the moment," McTeigue revealed. "I think they're still trying to work out the mechanics of how that can come together." That's exactly what we've heard recently. But I got a bit more out of him when I asked if he'd be interested in doing it if they ever did offer it to him. He said:

"I think I would be interested in doing it if they let me do it the way I wanted to do it. I would say that, if you take the Richard Donner Supermans and the last Superman [from Bryan Singer], I think that Superman is probably ripe for a bit of a change up. I think society has changed around the core idea of what Superman was."

"And I'm not saying you do the ubiquitous dark Superman, I'm not saying that… I'm just saying that I think there are some things that you could excise from the Superman mythology that people would get into it, if you took the world that he was in and changed that a bit, and maybe even project that into the future a bit. I think you don't really have to play into the origin story anymore. I think there's a whole bunch of things you could do to make that film more alive and exciting again."

I mentioned that Mark Millar's Superman: Red Son graphic novel is one that people reference for a much different, but still brilliant, storyline for Superman. "I think you always incur the wrath of the people - they love Superman," McTeigue said. "Why not make it a little different, change it up a bit?" I agree, but then again, he's such a well-known character, that I don't dare pitch an idea for fear of it not living up to what everyone wants. I'm sure James has his own brilliant idea already. It's just a matter of if WB likes his idea.

Is This Nic Cage as Tim Burton's Superman?

Both Steve and Webhead2006 has informed me about an article regarding Tim Burton's canceled Superman movie that was going to star Nicholas Cage as the Man of Steel. Included in the article is a picture of Nicholas Cage as Superman along with a couple short video clips showing off production work on the movie. It is unknown if the imagery is factual or not but you can take a look at the article here:

Smallville: New video, Cat Grant and more hype!

First off, a new, near two minute long clip for the Smallville season premiere, "Savior" has been released. This scene features Oliver fighting in a cage match with Lois undercover. Check it out:

Doesn't it feel like yesterday Smallville premiered for the first time? Here we are eight years later, with the season nine premiere on Sept. 25. How time flies. But we've digressed. We watched the season premiere and must say a couple things: First of all, Team Smallville isn't messing around with the special effects. It looks like they pulled out all the stops (and the budget) on this sweet, first episode. Also, all of you Lois lovers will be happy to know Erica Durance (Lois Lane) is interwoven throughout many storylines and is front and center during most of the show. Set three weeks after the events of the finale, Clark (Tom Welling) is training to be Superman and is struggling with leaving his humanity behind. He's frustrated with his inability to fly, but is told by trainer Jor-El it's because, "You still see yourself as a human." Meanwhile Clark's relationship with Chloe (Allison Mack) is downright rocky, while he remains obsessed with Lois. Lois doesn't have a clue where she was for the last three weeks, but when she returns it's in the company of a freaky Kryptonic-ninja lady from the future who's out to get Clark. And watch out for Lois' scary dream sequence at the end of the episode: there's sex, sweat, blood and death.

Last but not least is a rumor going around. IMDB has "Emilie Ullerup" listed as an actor who will play the character "Cat Grant" in the Smallville episode, "Crossfire". I read the script for the episode and it does indeed seem like a possibility. You can check out her IMDB profile here:

Nelson "No Current Plans For Superman"

The head of DC Entertainment, Diane Nelson has revealed to MTV that, as of now, the company has no plans for Superman in the works. Here is an excerpt from the article:

"We actually don't have any current plans for Superman," said Nelson when asked if the new environment (and the recent legal decision regarding the character) made a "Superman" movie more or less likely in the near future.

We recently ranked Superman as one of the most important properties for WB to prioritize in their new, movie-friendly arrangement regarding DC, so it was interesting to hear that the company currently has no plans for the Man of Steel.

Nelson then reiterated her stance on the lack of action on the Superman front, while acknowledging the character's importance in the DC universe.

"We've obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it's a key part of the family, but we don't have current plans behind Superman," she said.

This certainly doesn't bode well for the Man of Steel and all of us fans who have been eagerly awaiting the next big movie or property for Superman. So what do you guys think? Is a Superman movie off the cards or is development for it in such early stages that there just isn't anything to talk about?

Seeing how they don't apparently have anything in the cards and appear that they won't be able to make the 2011 timeline, it is looking possible that we could get a Superman "made for tv" movie based on Smallville with Tom Welling and Erica Durance. It would likely be cheaper for them to do a Smallville movie and have it flop (if it would) instead of having nothing at all and having to deal with the fallout of missing the timeframe they have to create a movie in. Just a thought anyways!

Soaring into its ninth season, this modern retelling of the Superman legend and its classic characters continues to blend realism, action and emotional depth to reveal a new interpretation of the enduring mythology. This season, as Metropolis' clock tower tolls our characters' darkest hour, we find Clark Kent (Tom Welling) finally making his first attempts to embrace his calling as a superhero.

After the events of last season, Clark takes on the mantle of protector of Metropolis, trading in his familiar red-and-blue for black-and-gray, sticking to the city's shadows and rooftops to become a solitary sentry simply known as "the Blur." While Clark wrestles with his identity, feeling forced to choose between his Kryptonian heritage and human past, he'll encounter even more powerful enemies and allies from across the DC Universe. This season will feature new and past nemeses, including Metallo (Brian Austin Green, "Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles"), the man with the Kryptonite heart; Roulette, a sexy mastermind; the return of Toyman; and the always-treacherous Zod (Callum Blue) as a young Major and leader of an invading alien army, who befriends fellow Kryptonian Clark just as his venomous side is beginning to emerge. Clark emerged victorious, but his decision to ignore the Justice League's warnings and save the human side of medic Davis Bloome (Sam Witwer) from the monster Doomsday came with a tragic cost – Davis turned out to be just as evil as the beast he'd been bonded to, and murdered Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) in front of Chloe (Alison Mack), the woman they both loved. In the wake of Jimmy's death, Chloe retreated into her Watchtower, the Justice League disbanded, and Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) went into a downward spiral, retiring his Green Arrow persona. Instead, he remains haunted by Lois' sudden disappearance, fearing the woman he cares about most could have been killed during his fight with Doomsday.

The season nine premiere takes place three weeks after Clark and Doomsday's epic battle. Obsessed with becoming the hero the world needs, Clark is now literally leaving his mark on Metropolis – having fully embraced his Kryptonian side in order to finish training with his father Jor-El, Clark has started wearing the iconic "S"-shield on his chest, and spreads the symbol around the city in an effort to give its people hope.

Whereas Clark is working alone, Chloe feels driven to reunite the disbanded Justice League. Her biggest challenge is Oliver Queen, who'd rather lose himself in underground fight clubs and drunken one-night stands. Oliver's friends will hatch a plan to bring him back from the edge. Clark and Oliver will find themselves caught up in a love triangle with Lois, as both men's passions begin to burn brightly for her. Meanwhile, Clark continues to be conflicted over his own feelings for Lois. As the sparks fly, Lois and Clark's relationship will deepen, leading to their first true kiss, and possibly something more.

Meanwhile, Clark and Chloe's relationship is starting to become strained. No longer content just being Clark's sidekick, Chloe uses Watchtower's powerful computers to spin her own web of influence and intrigue, manipulating people like chess pieces in the name of the greater good. But when Chloe begins to believe the ends justify the means, it sends her on a collision course with her friend and ally Clark.

When it comes to master manipulators, Tess Mercer has emerged as the rightful heir to Lex Luthor's legacy. Always inscrutable, Tess has her hands full this season with an army of Kryptonians, newly arrived from the lost city of Kandor and led by the infamous Zod. However, this incarnation of Zod is younger than the one we remember – he has yet to grow into the power-mad psychopathic dictator, General Zod. Season nine's Zod may only be a Major, but he's already a cunning strategist and charismatic leader who knows how to inspire his troops. But behind his magnetism and those piercing eyes, Zod is still very dangerous. When Zod and Clark eventually meet, Clark recognizes that if he can befriend his fellow Kryptonian, he might be able to influence Zod away from becoming an evil, twisted tyrant. While it's true this Major Zod has certain vulnerabilities, it may only take a handful of betrayals to turn him into Clark's deadly arch-nemesis.

Also, Ausiello Files has posted some details on the actor chosen to play a young version of Jor-El in what will most likely be the "Kandor" episode:

Turns out that kneel-obsessed kook Zod traveled to Earth with some iconic cargo.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Smallville has cast Julian Sands (24, Warlock, a million other things) to play a young Jor-El. He’ll make his debut in the November episode “Kandor” when it’s revealed that he arrived with Zod and the other Kandorians.

Save for a brief appearance in season 2, Jor-El has been heard but never seen on Smallville (Terrence Stamp does the voiceover honors). As of now, Sands is locked in for one episode.

Smallville’s ninth season kicks off Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 pm — that’s two weeks from tonight for those who don’t have a calendar handy.

Comic book writer Geoff Johns has revealed the director of the episode 'Society' which he will write this season on his Twitter account. It will be none other than Glen Winter. Johns and Winter already worked for last season episode 'Legion' together. Winter is a long time member of Smallville's crew and directed several episodes so far. Furthermore, Johns revealed he and Winter will have a dinner tomorrow night.

'Society' will be focused on the introduction of comic book world's first superhero group, Justice Society of America, in the Smallville universe. It's not clear which episode number it will have however it will be one of the first episodes after Smallville's winter hiatus.

Warner Bros. Creates DC Entertainment, Many Changes Underway

DC Entertainment, a separate division of WBEI, will be charged with strategically integrating the DC Comics business, brand and characters deeply into Warner Bros. Current DC properties in development and/or production at Warner Bros. Entertainment include:

– “Human Target” is being produced by Warner Bros. Television for a mid-season debut on Fox.

– “Midnight Mass” is in series development at Warner Bros. Television for consideration for the 2010-11 season.

– “Jonah Hex,” Warner Bros. Pictures’ supernatural Western starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich, recently wrapped production in Louisiana.

– Warner Premiere’s direct-to-platform DVD animated release of “Green Lantern: First Flight” debuted July 28.

– Warner Bros. Animation currently produces “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” which airs on Cartoon Network.

– Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released “Batman: Arkham Asylum” on August 25, a dark, action packed videogame adventure for Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows.

He Has Risen

A couple tiny pieces of information for you guys today. Comic book legend, John Geoff has twittered a small detail regarding his episode "Society" simply saying:

@AaronisThinking Good seeing you too! Smallville JSA should be a lot of fun! Green Arrow vs. someone familiar to comic fans.

And then slightly later:

Had an amazing week at Smallville! JLA vs. JSA!!

Not a whole lot to go on but I am guessing that we will see at least one JLA member apparently fighting a JSA member or so these twitters say. Really by the time the episode is actually written, there will likely be more then just one JLA and more then one JSA character in it. Legion was a very well done episode so I expect nothing less from this episode.

Last thing to share is that the above picture was posted with the second twitter. Is it just a logo he made sharing his enthusiasm for the showor is there some hint behind it. I'm hearing everything from a hint about Clark finally flying to it being nothing more then to represent that Smallville is finally moving towards the beginning of Superman. It's probably just a logo design he made and nothing more but I figured I would share it with you guys none the less.

First off I would like to apologize for the lack of updates lately. To tell you the truth, there really hasn't been anything significant to report. Some of the Smallville titles that I listed below have been confirmed with the exception of 9.07 - Crash which has actually been confirmed as 9.07 - Crossfire. My guess is that it will be a Green Arrow themed episode. Anyways, Devoted to Smallville has captured nine photo's from what appears to be from the filming of episode four "Echo" and I thought some of you guys might enjoys these pictures. Kandor will make another appearance in Smallville

In season seven of Smallville, Kal-El visited Kandor to stop Brainiac from erasing Kal-El from history. It now appears that Kandor will be shown again in season nine:

James McTeigue won't deny Superman remake rumor

We shared with you earlier a story about a potential Superman remake with Andy and Larry Wachowski producing it as well as James McTeigue directing it. Slashfilm was fortunate enough to talk with James McTeigue regarding the possible Superman remake. Here is an excerpt from the article they released:

Last week IESB reported a rumor that Warner Bros and DC Comics were in talks with Andy and Larry Wachowski to produce a Superman reboot directed by McTeigue. I asked James if there was any truth to the rumors what-so ever, and he laughed kinda nervously, and paused for a second, before giving me an interesting non answer: “You know… I… I would say… I’ll keep you guessing, actually. It’s good not to dispel every rumor, right?” James had been so forthcoming on previous questions, and quick to deny false rumors. I hate to read too much into his answer (or as it may be, his non-answer) but his hesitation seems to suggest there might be something to it. Maybe there have been some early talks, or possibly it is something the Wachowski Brothers are developing. But the non denial seems rather odd, especially coming off of denials on a handful of other rumored projects.

Lex talk just won't die

It seems like everyone is jumping on the Lex train lately. Rumors have been swarming regarding Lex Luthor's return since before Comic Con with the producers officially saying that they are working on him coming back but have been unable to work out a schedule with him just yet.

So that seems to be where things stand for the time being. My opinion is that Michael will indeed come back eventually for at least a partial season or perhaps a couple episodes. Before that happens, however, I believe that the producers will do stuff in Smallville which causes Clark and company to began to wonder if Lex is really dead or not which will lead up to Michael actually returning as Lex Luthor. Just my speculation of course.

CW's Dawn Ostroff talks Smallville

At a recent CW executive session, Dawn Ostroff talked a little bit about shows like Smallville and Supernatural. I'll quote some of the interesting parts from the article.

Dawn Ostroff on Smallville Fridays:

Ostroff saw an opportunity to make some traction on Friday night, hence the decision to move “a big established hit like Smallville” there.

Dawn Ostroff hints at Smallville possibly lasting longer then ten seasons:

“I hope it’s not the last season,” Ostroff says of Smallville. “I think the producers have come up with some really good storylines this season. I think the show has a lot of life left in it. We have high hopes for it staying on the air for a while.”

And for the Supernatural fans out there, Dawn's got your back:

Ostroff also hopes Supernatural will remain on the air “for a while.”

Dawn Ostroff on whether or not Michael Rosenbaum will return as Lex Luthor:

Wonder Twins and zombies in Smallville?

During the Comic Con event, the producers were asked whether or not the Wonder Twins would appear in Smallville. Of course they acted as if they hadn't a clue what the Wonder Twins were.

We know that a duo set of characters would be appearing in Smallville, episode 5 but until now we have not had any clues as to who the duo was going to be... until now!

KryptonSite has posted a hint for this duo:

A possible hint on the guest characters in this episode: It's very likely they may have the ability to turn into a bird and a bucket of water, respectively. Purple monkey optional. We'll see if that pans out. (Keep in mind this entry is just speculation and nothing is confirmed)

At Comic Con it was announced that comic book genius, Geoff Johns who wrote the well received episodes, "Legion" in season eight will be coming back to write an episode about the Justice Society of America. Recently Geoff Johns shares some new details on his upcoming episode but the article was quickly taken down. Last year, Geoff Johns closed out Comic-Con International with news that gave long-time Legion of Super-Heroes fans a cause for rejoice and, if they didn’t have one already, a reason to watch “Smallville.” The superstar writer contributed a script to the CW’s primetime powerhouse that placed the Legion smack dab in middle of the “Smallville” mythos. Well, he’s at it again. It was announced last Sunday at San Diego’s “Smallville” panel that this season, Johns is shifting his focus from a superhero team protecting the world thousands of years in the future to comicdom’s original superhero team – The Justice Society of America. Johns, who wrote “JSA” and the re-launched “Justice Society of America” for nearly a decade, told CBR News that the producers of “Smallville” approached him shortly after the ninth season was commissioned by the network to see if he was interested in writing another episode. And he said yes -- with one caveat. "I said I‘d be interested if I could bring another DC property that’s never been brought to live action, to live action. And so we talked a little bit and I pitched them my idea on how I thought a JSA episode would work because I wanted to remain faithful to what JSA’s all about but still work within the context of the show. And they liked it.” Johns said it was way too early to discuss specific details about the episode but noted he was excited to be heading back to Vancouver for another project. “The writing staff working up there in Vancouver is excellent. And I’m really excited that I’m going to have the chance to work with everybody again. And of course, I’m really excited to be bringing the JSA to Smallville.” Because the Legion members featured last season were heavy hitters – Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad and Cosmic Boy – CBR News nudged Johns for at least a tease of which JSA members we might be seeing. “I cannot to tell you that yet. Not a whole lot of information but know how good of a writer Geoff Johns is, I am eagerly anticipating his second Smallville episode. It was also revealed during Comic Con that Jeph Loeb, who wrote some of the best episodes in past Smallville seasons such as "Red," "Insurgence," "Legacy," and "Unsafe", is considering writing another episode or two for season nine (perhaps even season ten?) and is in the process of working something out with the show producers.

Details released regarding Clark's new costume

There has been some confusion regarding Clark's costume that was shown off at Comic Con last week and I just wanted to clear up what kind of costume Clark will be wearing and the role it plays in Smallville this upcoming season.

First off, at Comic Con it was confirmed that the costume is most definitely not a resigned "Superman" costume but rather one of several costumes Clark will be wearing this season as he begans his journey to becoming the Superman we all know and love.

New information was released today by someone on the Krypton forums who claims to have gotten the details while at Comic Con. He wen't on to explain that the black costume shown in the video feed, the leather trenchcoat like costume was given to Kal-El while he works on his training at the Fortress of Solitude with Jor-El. Clark has decided to use the costume outside of the Fortress as well and for a very good reason. Jor-El has added the "S" logo to the costume that will evidently hide Clark's true identity. According to the article, so long as Clark is wearing the training costume, no one will know who exactly he is. How exactly this will work, we'll just have to wait and see.

I cannot confirm if the information is real, however, in the video feed you can see the Superman logo being burned into the costume. I am going to wager and say that this rumor has at least some truth to it if it's not entirely true. As we get closer to the season premiere air date, expect some high resolution photos being released showing off the season premiere and costume in general. I'll make sure to share them here for you guys. Hopefully the Comic Con trailer will be released as well (CW talked about releasing it online soon).

WB HAS PUT SUPERMAN ON THE FAST TRACK!

hi Andre here A couple of interesting tidbits coming from the Superman camp that I feel I must share with our readers.

Currently, Superman is a hot property over at Warner Bros. Studios, this is known. But how do you move from Bryan Singer's recent attempt at rebooting the character in Superman Returns into something more action packed? Word out of WB is that Singer's film willl simply be seen as a "book-end" to the Richard Donner legacy, to complete the saga. The next films will be a completely new take on the character and the story.

And as everyone knows by now, Bryan Singer is no longer involved in the Superman franchise. Hence, the billion dollar question is...who is?

For the better part of the last month, I've been hearing a few names pop up in regards to who just might be involved in the reboot of the Superman franchise.

And from the recent lawsuit we all know that the new Superman film must be in production by 2011 and IESB has learned that it has indeed been put on the proverbial "fast track". So what names are we hearing?

This past weekend at San Diego Comic Con, I ran into plenty of DC and WB folks who turned pale when I started asking about the man in blue.

There is one thing we know for sure, there is currently a very short list of potential directors to bring Supes back to the big screen.

First are the Wachowski Brothers, yep, Andy and Larry. The other name I am hearing is James McTeigue.

Here's where things get fuzzy, because I am also hearing the Wachowski's may come in to produce with James McTeigue as the actual director.

Part of me wonders why WB would allow the Wachowski's anywhere near Superman after the amount of money they cost the studio after the disaster that was Speed Racer. But, then again, they did make WB plenty of dough on the Matrix trilogy plus Jeff Robinov loves these guys.

To me, it makes more sense to have Andy and Larry Wachowski serve as producers with James McTeigue to direct after the awesomeness that is his film Ninja Assassin because the one absolute mandate WB and DC have for the new Superman film is for it to be action packed, something Superman Returns was sorely lacking. And there is no doubt that the Wachowski's and McTeigue can be relied on for action.

One thing is for sure, Superman is moving faster than a speeding bullet and we can expect some major announcments coming from the Burbank studio in the very near future.

hi its andre new admin here and as My First new Contribution to this site i'm saying it First Bring Laura VanderVoort back to smallville for More than 1 episode, she is the reason for season 8's Highest rated Episode Bloodline. this episode is aaalso nominated for an award as well, i understand she is doing V, but seriously they film in the same vacinity! so its not a far stretch to have her return! she made season 7 the best season Yet imo! no comment on season 8 the less said the better about it.

Michael Rosenbaum to reprise his role as Lex Luthor?

When Michael Rosenbaum left Smallville after his 7 year contract was up, many fans were really disappointed by the decision and even thought that the show would be canceled. Michael has stated that he did not want to renew his contract because he was growing bored with Smallville and wanted to pursue other interest (primarily comedy).

However, in the last past year, Michael Rosenbaum hasn't had a whole lot of success outside of very small projects like Peanus which can be found on YouTube. The Smallville producers have tried and tried to get him to return for season eight but had no such luck.

However, recently the Smallville producers have mentioned that they have indeed had dinner with Michael Rosenbaum to negotiate his return to Smallville for season nine in some capacity. Unfortunately the producers had no such luck so far, citing scheduling conflicts as the main reason:

Kelly: You know, we love Rosenbaum. We had dinner with him a couple of weeks ago. We would over the moon to have time work out for his schedule, have him back and visit the show and nothing, I think, would make the cast happier, too. But right now, there’s nothing that’s panning out, but we’re always looking at it.

So while nothing has been confirmed it is now obvious that Michael Rosenbaum was at least willing to sit down and talk about returning to Smallville. Personally I believe that it's only a matter of time before Michael Rosenbaum comes back. I think that if we don't see him in season nine then he will definitely make a return in season ten for at least an episode or two. It's good to know that the producers are still working on getting him to come back. Maybe Michael Rosenbaum will get bored of retirement and finally give in. ;)

Moving Forward

First off I would like to announce that I, Kevin, a frequent visitor of the Save Superman Campaign have been given control over the direction of Save Superman Campaign.

I spent the last few hours trying to decide just what direction I think we should take this website into and have come up with some ideas that I wanted to share with the readers here to get some general feedback on what you guys would like to see here.

Idea 1: Continuing with tradition, I could keep this website exactly as it appears today with the name intact and general random Superman news/rumors posting going. Basically this idea is continuing what the site is today without any major changes.

Idea 2: Was to focus 80% on Smallville news and rumors and 20% on other rumors and news regarding Superman movies and television shows. Why focus so much on Smallville? Well Smallville is pretty much the only Superman television/movie product still running outside of cartoons. Smallville is still widely popular even after eight seasons and it still appears to have a lot of life left into it.

Idea 3: I was throwing around was to either redesign this blog a little or perhaps move to a more modern and hopefully more complex blogging structure (Possibly Word Press or IP. Board). I've also explored changing the website name as well.

Idea 4: Another thing I want to ask you guys is just how much content do you guys want to be posted. Generally this website posted one piece of news about once a week. However, I believe that there is a lot of content out there that could be posted to the point of having multiple posts per day. Question is, how content do you feel is best?

Many of you have expressed interess in the continuation of this website so ultimately your opinions matter to me and how I should approach this project. I am open for suggestions as I attempt to take on this project and hopefully turn it into something nice. So any suggestions or comments you guys might have would most definitely be appreciated.

A huge loss for the Save Superman Campaign

Regrettably, we are losing the two people who started the campaign and it's future is now unknown.

Steve and Emijayne are sadly to say, divorcing. It is unfortunate and we wish them both the best and nothing but happiness wherever it may come from. Steve has requested that nobody contact either of them during this time so they may deal with their personal lives.

Welling IS Superman!!

For those of you who missed the SDCC and haven't been paying attention to the news that came out of the Smallville panel, we got our first glimpse of the first Smallville version of the Superman suit. As I said it would be, the suit is more in line with the leather JLA outfits we've seen. Welling will don all black with a black trenchcoat and silvery blue "S" shield on his chest. Below is a cell phone shot of the very end of the presentation where he is in uniform and standing on a rooftop overlooking the city.

The Death of Singerman

With the recent news straight from Brandon Routh himself that he has no contract for another Superman film and no idea what is going on with the franchise, we can officially declare Singerman is dead. Not in a coma, not on life support, but flatlined....dead.

Not that we, the realist fans, didn't already know this. I mean Emi and I have been saying it for over 2 years now. So, where does that leave us on the Save Superman Campaign checklist:

1. Robinov needs to announce a reboot - check

2. Singer needs to admit he has no contract for a second Superman film - check

3. Routh needs to admit he has no contract for second Superman film - check

Well I think that about does it. Any comments from the apologists who float in and out?

New rumor...Writers and a director being courted??

I have not confirmed this and don't know if I'll be able to until next week, but I've got some rumor news.

The only friend I seem to have left at WB after involving myself in the pettiness on our previous website, has told me a suggestion was made to Horn and Robinov. They supposedly liked it and put out feelers to see if there's any interest.

It looks like WB will be courting JJ Abrams for a second time after his overwhelming success with the quasi-reboot of Star Trek. Many know he was one of the directors attached to Superman during all the failed attempts before they settled on Singer's failure.

AND...with Micael Bay wanting to take a full year off before diving into the final film in the Transformers trilogy, it's been suggested that the back to back (to back with TF2??) success of Orci and Kurtzman may be what Superman needs.

Could we finally be getting some motion?? No idea. But I'm hoping...

MTV interviews Superman Returns producer Scott Mednick

Doesn't say much, but gives you the impression that WB isn't making another Superman anytime in the near future. Read on and you'll see what I mean.

Things are about to get hectic for Scott Mednick. The former “Superman Returns” and “300” executive producer recently announced his involvement in the upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” live-action movie and says he’ll soon be busy producing another major franchise as well. However, one thing Mednick says he won’t be doing anytime soon is taking another crack at rebooting the Superman movie franchise. Of course, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have an idea or two about who should.

“Bryan Singer is, as we all know from ‘X-Men‘ to ‘Superman’ to ‘House’ on television, a genius,” Mednick told MTV News. “And if anybody can bring [Superman] again to the screen, it’s going to be that team.”

While fully aware of the polarizing lack of punching in “Superman Returns,” Mednick doesn’t regret his time with the Man of Steel. After all, as Mednick points out, in attempting to merge generations of fan expectations, the film “did an enormous amount of money at the box office.”

“In retrospect, hearing from audiences, watching reactions, and having the film get out there, the core fans wanted Superman to kick some serious butt. And we lost several of the villains when the island started to crumble and the large slab fell on them,” Mednick said of the one aspect of the film he would reconsider. “A lot of the fans wanted to have Superman just beat the crap out of them. So that’s an interesting, fan-based point of view, and you have to listen to those fans and try to weigh their wants, needs, and wishes are along with the storytelling.”

Still, Mednick says he looks forward to applying the lessons he learned working on Superman to his upcoming projects.

“There’s not a single movie I’ve been involved in that you don’t look back and say, ‘Boy, I wish I’d done this,’ or ‘maybe I could have tweaked that’ or something, so with Superman, it’s no different,” said Mednick. “Again, it’s a great honor to be part of that franchise … and I wish them nothing but great luck if they move on with a second ['Superman'] feature.”

Superman's True Kryptonite

When we first set out to "save" Superman, our focus was based on what Bryan Singer did to the character. We were up in arms about Superman Returns and how it disrespected the character and what he has stood for the last 70+ years. We were ranting and raving with anger over the casting, the writing, the plot, the directing, and wondering what the hell went wrong. We were asking how could something so simple with so much history turn into such a tragedy?

After my most recent conversations regarding the future of the film franchise, as well as the future of Smallville, I've come to realize something. We're not focusing on the right problem.

To my own personal knowledge, WB has declined over a dozen script ideas from some of the best comic writers out there. Again, that's just the ones I know about. There could easily be dozens more that I'm not aware of. So what is the problem? Why is WB declining all these ideas? You can bet your ass it's not because they aren't any good. Not when writers from DC who have created Superman stories as a career are being shot down. There must be a reason though.

I have 3 theories, of which none end well.

Theory #1

WB is holding off until the courts decide the percentage that must be shared with the Siegel family from properties produced between 1999 and 2008. As of now, the Siegels own 50% of the domestic rights to Superman and all elements from Action Comics #1 through #6. Beyond those issues, DC maintains full rights. However, it has yet to be established what percentage of profits made on current issues (beyond 1999) is owed due to the use of Superman in them. This sum of cash could be so big that WB doesn't see the point in making another film with the risk of having another Superman Returns on their hands.

Theory #2

WB has decided not to risk anything with the impending loss of the remaining 50% of Superman rights in October 2013 and is sitting back waiting for the opportunity to cash in instead. By this I mean that once they have lost all rights to the character, they will still own full rights to Lex Luthor, the Daily Planet, and all the biggest villains in Superman's history. In order for someone else to make a film the fans will accept, they'll have to pay WB/DC a huge chunk of change. No risk and all profit makes more sense from a business standpoint.

Theory #3

The Siegel family is holding up another film by exercising their 50% stake in the character for reasons that could include their lawyer wanting to produce rather than allowing WB to do so. Both the Siegel and Shuster heirs have stated they don't feel the character has been respected as he was created. Their reasoning for terminating the rights agreement was not solely about money, but about respect.

Whatever the reason, Superman is suffering greatly. Not just because of Bryan Singer or Brandon Routh, but because of corporate politics and greed. The question is, can we overcome this? Can the fans set aside differences long enough to band together and actually help save Superman? I believe we can.

Another season ends... UPDATED 5/18/09

Well, folks, another season of Smallville has come and gone. The question is, where is it going now?

Upon the departure of Al and Miles, I nearly threw a party. I was genuinely psyched up for Season 8. Then, the pupils of the Lana lovers joined forces with the man hating head of CW and geared the show officially towards the 18 - 24 year old female demographic. Smallville became much more of a night time soap opera rather than the heroic journey of Clark Kent.

Now that's not to say the show was horrible this past season. It definitely had its bright points. Some were very bright, but then dimmed as if only a flash. By this I mean the progression of Clark to Superman. Just when we think things are on track, the next episode completely derails the previous one. Almost as if the writers were never on the same page.

For over 20 episodes, we watched an Incredible Hulk ripoff (Davis/Doomsday loves Chloe), waiting for the ultimate throwdown. Only it turned out to be the ultimate let down as a 10 second fight in slow motion.

At first, I was quite disappointed in the ending and with the killing of Jimmy. However, after much reflection, I've come to realize he was the best choice. Here's why. Jimmy has always been about 10 years younger than Lois and Clark. So, Chloe handing the camera to his little brother who is named Jimmy (rather than Henry James) repairs a continuity issue with the comics.

Another repair job is not having the knock down drag out fight between Clark and Doomsday. If I remember correctly, Doomsday was buried underground in the comics and upon escaping, killed several minor members of the JLA before his battle with Superman. Now if the writers are trying to fix things, we should expect new JLA characters that are expendable and a blow up between Zod, Superman, and Doomsday.

Unfortunately, my money is on another screwed up season of chick stories since that is all CW wants produced.

**UPDATE**

Since I barely have enough time for my own website let alone try and look at others, I have no idea if this has been announced anywhere yet. So if it has, great. If not, yay for me...

1. Tom Welling has not only signed for a 9th season, but a 10th as well.
2. Discussions have been taking place to transition the show into a full blown Superman series as it's been 13 years since we had one and WB wants talk of Welling and the film franchise to die off quietly. I was completely dead on with my assumption that Doomsday being buried was a set-up for next season. They have something really huge planned.
3. The suit was designed and would have been in the final episode if they did not get a 9th season, but Welling apparently now feels it should not be brought into the show yet. This could change if it goes all out Superman.

In the previous thread concerning Tom Welling signing on for Season 9 of Smallville, people started to bring up the forum from the original site. I have also received several emails from people who aren't posting and were confused to find a blog and not what we had been running. So I'm responding to everyone's concerns/thoughts.

Here's the problem with the other site and the reasons we shut it down.

The forums, although I believed splitting them into moderated and unmoderated would fix things, were an uncontrolled free for all. Now don't think I'm laying blame on anyone because I'm completely guilty of taking part in most questionable topics and even starting some too. I am still the administrator. It was and is my duty to set the example and enforce the rules. I failed miserably in that regard and take full responsibility for it.

Many of my sources, who even though they may personally agree with my outlook on life, political and social issues, etc, felt that if they were somehow connected to the site their reputations would be in jeopardy. This is why there hasn't been any news from me in a very long time. I've been sort of blacklisted and it's my own fault. We lost the respect of some very important people in regards to our efforts that had finally been considering what were saying.

A person's political and social views, sexual orientation, mental health status, etc have no place in discussing the future of Superman. If a side by side comparison of something to do with Superman vs a real life issue is being made, that's another story. We spent way too much time discussing Singer's lifestyle and Routh's questionable lifestyle. We didn't spend nearly enough time discussing Superman and how to fix what has been done.

Look, I'm perfectly willing to put the site back up online, but I can't allow ANY attacks other posters or discussions of questionable nature. I am very grateful to those who helped out before like Jerry, Sharon, AP, Olea, etc. In order to put it back up, I would need at least 5 people to step up and be responsible moderators with good judgment and the ability to act on their own. If you think you can do that, send me an email.

I am putting a poll up to see who wants the site back and who thinks the blog is fine. At the end of the week, if I have moderators and you guys vote to go online again, I'll do it.

I'm not the first person to report this but I wanted to get multiple confirmations before jumping into things....

Tom Welling has just recently (within the last 10 days) joined Erica Durance in signing the dotted line for another season. What took so long?? The suit. It appears that Welling truly does not want to wear tights for some reason. According to show producer Brian Peterson, convincing Welling to put on tights has been a multi-year discussion that has not gotten very far. This sort of confirmation unfortunately ruins any hope of him being the next big screen Superman.

Superman pushed aside for lesser heroes?

Superman is in a holding pattern and everyone can thank Bryan Singer. In a recent conversation I was very lucky and blessed to have, a WB exec explained why there has been no movement on another Superman film. While he gave the typical "thanks" to Bryan Singer for his efforts, most likely because they still have other business dealings, it was clear the not so well received Superman Returns has caused such confusion about what went wrong and where to go now that they've decided to switch focus to their smaller properties.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, he said, "While we have not abandoned the Superman franchise, we feel that now is not the right time to move forward with another film. There are still many great stories to tell, however agreeing on which one to start with is never an easy task." He went on to say, "Right now, we have to focus on Green Lantern which is set to go behind cameras late this summer in Australia. Shortly after that, we hope to get moving on Wonder Woman with Silver Pictures. There have been some really exciting new ideas discussed about it so far. And of course, we're still talking with Chris [Nolan] about the next Batman."

Now don't let this get you too down. I'm very interested in seeing the other heroes on screen finally. And in my opinion, not rushing into another Superman with just anybody is better than handing Singer the camera again. Unfortunately, when pressed about plans to keep or lose the cast, all I got was "That all depends" and when asked about the effects of the lawsuit with the Siegel family I got nothing.

What do you all think about Superman being moved aside? Good, bad, so what?

I've been quite happy about the participation level we've had lately concerning how to reboot Superman. Some interesting ideas have been tossed out a debate has even started.

Well, MilkyWayWriter sent me his vision of Superman and I've got it right here for you. Is the best I've read? No. Is it original? Yeah. Would I use it to reboot Superman? Personally no. That's not to say it isn't good. It's just not something I'd do myself. We all know I have my own idea.

The New Superman

We've tried this before but didn't get very far because of all the in-fighting. I'm hoping we can get past all of it and truly brainstorm ideas on what the new Superman should be like.

What villain(s) or antagonist(s) should be included? What should the plot be? Should it rehash previous stories from the comic, include today's problems of terrorism and economic turmoil, or a combination of both? Clark Kent, goofy or your average guy? Lois Lane, typical woman or typical Army brat with an attitude? Lex Luthor, main villain or plotting in the background for future sequel? Does Lois know Clark's secret? Does anyone know Clark's secret? Is Superman already established or should his origin be revisited or reinvented?

If we want to help save Superman, we need to figure out how to first.

Smallville: Season 8 reflection / Season 9 speculation

Well, we're nearing what was going to be (and should have been) the end of Smallville. After the much welcome departure of Al "Super Liar" Gough and Miles "Along for the Ride" Millar, we saw the tv drama take on Doomsday of all villains. Even I must admit the design work is quite well done. However, a blatant copy off the Incredible Hulk?? Doomsday love-struck over Chloe the way Hulk pines for Betty?? Where's the originality?? Or should I say, what was wrong with the comic story??

Anyway, for all you Smallville fans out there, I give you this place to reflect on the past and dream of the future. Enjoy!

Bizzaro Superman script review

We can take this with a pretty big grain of salt in terms of it being the next Superman film, but Latino Review claims to have gotten their hands on a script for Bizzaro Superman.

Now while it would be interesting to have the two battle it out on the big screen and taking into consideration all the pitches that WB shot down (which some were awesome I might add), you can pretty much bet your house that this isn't getting made unless it's animated with the new DC Universe DVD line we've been seeing.

The Campaign Continues

SaveSuperman.com was a success thanks to all of you fans! Warner Bros decided to reboot the film franchise and gave Bryan Singer the big boot out the door!

While they'll never officially say he was canned, we all knew what Jeff Robinov meant when he said, "Superman [Returns] didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to. It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had Superman [Returns] worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009, but now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman." and what Bryan Singer himself meant when he told Variety he currently has absolutely no film commitments including for another Superman beyond Valkyrie.

Does this mean we can trust WB to do right by this great icon? Does this mean the fans which have supported the comic for over 75 years and made Superman what he is today can finally expect to see the kind of film they've dreamed of? Unfortunately, no. It doesn't mean that at all. When we started SaveSuperman.com we promised to do everything in our power to see that Superman gets the big screen showing he deserves and that we deserve to see. This will now be the forever home of the Save Superman Campaign. We will be here until we deliver on our promise and can honestly say we've seen the best Superman film creatively possible.
