KryptonSite reviews Smallville season 9 premiere, "Savior"!

KryptonSite was lucky enough to have the opportunity to get an advance screening of the Smallville season premiere episode, "Savior" a week in advance. They have released a review for the episode and they appear to be pretty happy with the episode. The review doesn't offer up any more spoilers then what has already been mentioned online but it does have spoilers in it. Anyways, the review is definitely worth checking out:

  2. It's a shame that Supernatural is doing pretty poorly in ratings so far. It very well might not get renewed after this season is over. What a hugely underrated show that is.

  3. Kevin, where do you get this info about Supernatural? I thought it was considered one of the BETTER shows that the CW has, especially in light of all the crap that Dawn-O likes to force-feed the viewers. I also thought there was a plan for it to only last 5 seasons anyway but lately I've seen the possibility that it could go more?

  4. Yea from what i know last week's premire was decent not great ratings at about 3.4 million which is good for any CW show mind you. But I dont know how ratings did for episode 2 this week. Hopefully it didnt go down to much. I know that vampire show lost a good 1.2 million viewers from its series premiere last week. But we do have to remember before dawn o saying she doesnt want smallville or supernatural to end this year. Eric Kripke the creator of supernatural as always said he was only planning the show as a 5 year thing. So if it ends it still ends when the creator wants it to, but its to early to say for sure whats going to happen with that show since only 2 of what 22 episodes have aired so far. If they can maintain their mid 2 million viewers they had last season i dont see any issues.

But back to smallville hopefully it can do well off for friday move. I hope it can get mid 4 million viewers for premire and then hopefully keep its 3+ million viewers for the season.

Looking at next week, we got series premire of a show called brothers on fox(who knows if that will last!) ghost whisperer on cbs(a solid show for cbs) law & order on nbc(another solid show for that network)then smackdown on my network. Then a MLB game on abc(will normally be ugly betty).

Now smackdown is really the only show in smallville's target demo of males 18-35 which is what the show is going for. So looking at what could be the Top 6 shows of the night it will probably go. 1.CBS 2. NBC 3. ABC 4. FOX 5.CW 6. MyNetwork.

Also folks i think tend to forget over the years on smallville's tuesdays/wensdays and formally thursdays it always had tough competition going up to. And for the WB and for CW with its average 3-5 million viewers it had it was able to stay afloat against the shows that were getting like 8-15million viewers those night.

So if it can go against american idol, survivor and loads of other shows i cant recall, i dont see why it cant do well against ghost whisperer, law & order, FOX/ABC shows, and it used to in the past go head to head with smackdown for a time and still won out.

So I dont think we have much to worry about untill we see how ratings will fall. Then have to wait to at least the first 4 episodes aired to get a judge on how ratings are holding.

  6. "It's a shame that Supernatural is doing pretty poorly in ratings so far. It very well might not get renewed after this season is over. What a hugely underrated show that is."

Two things. One - They've always planned on a 5 year run, and up until recently Eric Kripke(the creator) was adamant about ending it. He now says that no matter what THIS mythological arc will end this year, but that it doesn't mean they won't start up another one. However, both actors contracts are up after this year I believe.

TWO- The CW doesn't look at the over all numbers all that much. To them it's the 18-49 WOMEN demo that they covet. If Supernatural does well in that demo for them then they get another season. Supernatural just needs a better lead in. Smallville really was perfect for them.

Ultimately Supernatural's future will depend on how well Vampire Diaries holds it audience. If they hold at Smallville level numbers then they may replace the show and use it to anchor the 9 pm slot on Thursday's and put a new show on at 8pm.

If Smallville stays steady on Friday's then it may get another year, but it will stay right where it is. CW has no presence on Friday's and Smallville being a solid show for them on that night will be big for them.

As for the actual premiere.....I'm not a big fan of this Lois Lane, so when they feature her she grates on my nerves. And, I'm really not a fan of how they are throwing the Clark and Chloe friendship out the window so far. But, I'm very hopeful that this season will be good and fix all the negativity the show generated from it's horrible cop out finale.

  7. By replacing the show..I meant Supernatural.

  8. On Smallville, I have high hopes. I don't like Jor-El being part of Zod's army though.

Side topic...Supernatural is now up against Fringe and getting hit hard. Expect it to move to another timeslot after the winter hiatus.

  9. I see some real reviews are coming in for the first couple of episodes of season 9. Pretty good so far. Of course, those fine folks posting at the Homepage have already written the season off!

  10. I know you have a bias against the homepage, but that attitude is prevalent EVERYWHERE. Smallville lost a lot of good will with the Doomsday finale and it's going to take them a bit to get that back.

  11. More impressions coming in for the first TWO episodes:

    ---
@NatalieAbrams from TV Guide, who has seen the first two episodes of #Smallville, has tweeted:

"Ding, ding, ding we have some winners. Yes, #Smallville is about to have its best season yet! Love it!"
    ---
damianholbrook: Screened the first 2 eps of #Smallville S9 last night. SUPERWOW! Strap in, fanboys and girls.
    ---

If these two quotes are any indication, season nine will definitely start out strong.

I plan on making a "Savior" topic about 24 hours or so before the episode airs so that we have a topic to discuss the episode in.

You're so right. Everybody knows that the Younis page troglodytes are longtime advocates of SV but only became bitter and whiny when the latter part of the 8th season failed to impress.

Oh wait, no they're not, they're a bunch of braying sheep who toe the line that Daddy Younis and his apostle Neal "Singerman is better than Donner" Bailey set out for them.

And frankly, I've not seen a prevalent anti-SV (or even anti-season 8) attitude ANYWHERE other than known Apologist dives like the Younis page.

If you want to be an Apologist, fine, but don't be an Apologist apologist, you'll only embarass yourself.

  13. Wrighty, we were all somewhat disappointed with the Doomsday smackdown, BUT when it comes to episodes we HAVEN'T SEEN YET, some of us will reserve judgement until we do.

BTW, you'll NEVER get those guys "back". They're all good little Baileys. They know the drill.

  14. oh totally smallville has had it fair share of letdowns and stupid mistakes here and there. Usually stemming from budget problems to bad writing here and there. I still love the show alot even for its faults it has had. I do agree season 8 was a good start and added some freshness the show needed. The whole lana stuff was a sore. But all we can hope for in the end to get good episodes and solid ratings.

As for that new preview clip with ollie/lois and future kryptonian chick was pretty good. Very good interaction with ollie/lois. Also that future chick seems to be pretty good. Cant wait to see what her whole story is about. Also its nice that she will have her kryptonian powers like clark does. Where as we know zod and his crew dont have their powers for what ever the reason in the show is.

Do not limit yourself. Lots of authors limit themselves to what they believe they can do
