We can take this with a pretty big grain of salt in terms of it being the next Superman film, but Latino Review claims to have gotten their hands on a script for Bizzaro Superman.
Now while it would be interesting to have the two battle it out on the big screen and taking into consideration all the pitches that WB shot down (which some were awesome I might add), you can pretty much bet your house that this isn't getting made unless it's animated with the new DC Universe DVD line we've been seeing.

it was an interesting idea from what they talked about in their little video review. Though i doubt wb would want to go in that direction for another superman. Though i would love to see bizarro used as a potential in a sequel film after they get a good reboot start off for superman.
ReplyDeleteWhile I like the idea of Bizzaro being in a Superman movie, I really disliked this particular story. The writing is extremely lazy, nothing happens for a reason, the entire movie is the result of unexplained accidents. This replicator machine, that's malfunctioning for some reason, is accidentally knocked skywards and just so happens to hit Superman who is, completely by coincidence, flying at that exact spot at that exact moment, thus creating Bizzaro. It's just plain lazy. If you're going to make a movie about Bizzaro, why not use one of the coolest aspects of Bizzaro's orign: he's the result of an attempt to clone superman; an attempt that went horribly wrong and produced a twisted monstrosity. And perhaps you could even build a franchise around it, perhaps have bizzaro created by the government controlled cadmus facility, as a means to have a "back up" superman, should the big blue boyscout himself fall in battle. Then perhaps reveal that one of the scientists is secretly reporting back to Lex Luthor, who uses this "mole" employee to get bizzaro under his control, and "escape" to destroy Superman.

ReplyDeleteBizarro in a SUPERMAN (*ahem*) film would be great if done right, but let's not forget Nuclear Man from Superman 4, AND his predecessor in the deleted scenes. Obviously Bizarro SHOULD'VE been the REAL villain there, but we all see how they blew the potential of THAT film. Singer couldn't have done a worse job himself.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Superman 4 is definitely a good example of how a bizzaro adaptation can go horribly wrong. And thanks webhead, I actually didn't completely finish my thought, as often happens when I write longish posts haha. I was also going to say that at the end of the film, you could have cadmus scientists come up with a way to create a clone of superman without a "bizzaro" being the result: Mix Superman's kryptonian DNA with human DNA. And you could have Luthor's mole inside cadmus secretly replace the human DNA sample cadmus was going to use to create this new clone with a sample of Luthor's DNA, which could plant the seeds for a twist in a future movie where this new clone, Conner Kent, finds out that he's not only half Superman, he's half Luthor.

ReplyDeleteI don't know about that one. I believe it was in Infinite Crisis or some such that Luthor called Conner 'son'. But wouldn't it be kinda like he's also Supes' son? So it looks TOO MUCH like Conner has '2 dads', if ya know what I mean. Kinda creeps me out, even in the comics.

I dislike Superman Returns as much as the next guy, I don't, however, take kindly to gay bashing. A few years ago, but not SO long ago, I remember reading 'legitimate' reports online about how lesbians wanted to have each other's children.....LITERATELY! Not simply 'by-pass' a man. Not even simple in vitro, artificial insemination. No, they wanted the child to have the DNA of BOTH women! For real, man! It was some premise like using egg material from BOTH women somehow, spliced or something, that, while it still would have to be fertilized by sperm, nevertheless the 'fused' egg or whatever the crap it was exactly would actually have BOTH women's genetic material. Now YOU tell me how WEIRD that sounds!
Now look at Conner Kent. Altough I'm no expert on this character, he was obviously a clone of Superman, i.e., Supes' DNA. Now somehow in all this Luthor also has HIS DNA in him also?!

Ah, I see, ok, Conner Kent has Luthor AND Superman's DNA because when cadmus was attempting to make a clone out of Superman, they realized that his kryptonian DNA was far too complex to clone, so they decided to splice human DNA in WITH Superman's DNA to get it down to a complexity level that they could work with. They did this, and the resulting creation was Kon-El aka Conner Kent. When Conner was first created, he hadn't yet developed any of superman's powers, so they imbued him with "tactile telekinesis" to mimic Superman's powers. Eventually, though, he began to develop his Kryptonian abilities naturally, such as heat vision, strength, flight, etc. For a while, Superboy was told that his Human DNA donor was just some random scientist at cadmus, I think his name was Paul West, or something, then he was told that he was just a modifies human clone of Paul West, made to look like Superman and given telekinesis to mimic superman's powers. Then later Conner found out that he WAS indeed half kryptonian and half human. And then, in a teen titans story arc, he discovered that the human DNA that they spliced in with Superman's Kryptonian DNA wasn't from Paul West, it was from Lex Luthor. So that's how he can have two male sets of DNA, the human DNA was just spliced into superman's kryptonian DNA, and it just so happened that both the Kryptonian DNA and the human DNA both came from males. It's just like how scientists in the real world spliced jellyfish DNA into a bunny rabbits DNA and created a glowing bunny rabbit.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, it is indeed creepy what science can do nowadays...I mean, glowing bunnies? I'm all for scientific advancements and all, but wow...it's one thing to use science to cure cancer and create diseases, but the implications of splicing DNA together to get a specific product scares me because of how big the potential to abuse that type of science is. So on the sheer creepiness factor, I agree with you completely.

ReplyDeleteEven in the late 90's, I saw this on the Learning Channel: a mouse with a HUMAN EAR growing on its' back! I'm not making this up. I don't remember the program exactly but I do remember it had to do with genetic engineering. Now just how they accomplished this feat is beyond me. Obviously they were splicing human & mouse DNA to achieve a desired effect.

Yeah, it's all a perfect example of the double edged sword that the realm of genetic engineering presents. On the one hand, advances in this field could litterally cure everything, and completely revolutionize organ transplanting, and make anti-organ rejection drugs that they give to people who receive transplants obsolete, but on the other hand, the potential for abuse is also extreme. Now, I don't think that that means that genetic engeneering should be outlawed, but gosh darn, genetic engineering left unchecked scares the heck outta me. And to relate it to the topic at hand, Bizzaro, in a way, is the ultimate representation of science taken too far, which is why I think he's such an interesting Superman adversary, especially given how crazily advanced things in that realm of science are getting.
