While they'll never officially say he was canned, we all knew what Jeff Robinov meant when he said, "Superman [Returns] didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to. It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had Superman [Returns] worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009, but now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman." and what Bryan Singer himself meant when he told Variety he currently has absolutely no film commitments including for another Superman beyond Valkyrie.
Does this mean we can trust WB to do right by this great icon? Does this mean the fans which have supported the comic for over 75 years and made Superman what he is today can finally expect to see the kind of film they've dreamed of? Unfortunately, no. It doesn't mean that at all. When we started SaveSuperman.com we promised to do everything in our power to see that Superman gets the big screen showing he deserves and that we deserve to see. This will now be the forever home of the Save Superman Campaign. We will be here until we deliver on our promise and can honestly say we've seen the best Superman film creatively possible.
Great to have a place to continue talking, and lets all hope that we can all get the film we want for superman.
ReplyDeleteI will be here. Still fighting for a truly super Superman film.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll be here to keep everyone else humble.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll be here as the hated apologist. ;)
ReplyDeletehehe.. you're all funny..
ReplyDeleteI really hope things run alot more smoothly here again. Plus we can get WB to notice us and get the Film we want to see for superman.
ReplyDeleteThat's my point in doing this. No more crap. No distractions. Just all things Superman.
ReplyDeleteI am glad there will be a PLACE to discuss all things SUPERMAN...Thanks
ReplyDeleteSorry the above comment is me. I am testing he openid
ReplyDeleteI kinda like the new format. I loved having a forum but it felt like the message (we want a REAL Superman film!!) did get diluted there, with all the other topics flying around. A worthy experiment but not necessarily a step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteSteve or EmiJayne, did the campaign have anything to do with Singer being shown the door or were we just saying what WB brass were all thinking?
Glad to see the site has a new home and a reason for me to join, just as along it helps get a new Superman reboot film on the go!
ReplyDeleteHopefully!!!
Colors...
ReplyDeleteThe best explanation we'll get from WB is what Robinov said to the Wall Street Journal. They'll never admit (or even deny for that matter) whether our petition had any impact on their decision. I'd like to think we had at least some part in it. I mean we had a huge outpouring of fan support and several mentions by legitimate media in addition to my emails, letters, and the petition itself. To say we had no effect would be a bit silly in my opinion.
Steve, that Kryptonian twit has left you a couple of messages over at the Sucks blog. Just thought you should know. I guess he's basically claiming victory.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Apologists are starting to use the term "apologist" for SV fans. Of course, they have to call it "Smallville Apologist" because, hey, leaving out that qualifier makes them look like self-loathing hypocrites.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen one person call Smallville fans apologists. What can I say, I'm an apologist for both SR and Smallville (more so Smallville as I will defend that show forever).
ReplyDeleteWell, there's Terminal over on the Younis page. And then AFan or whatevever the hell his name is over on BT.
ReplyDeleteTerminal is the only person I saw say it.
ReplyDeleteLet's be honest, has ANYONE ever seen a "creative" Apologist?
ReplyDeleteI thought not.
"Terminal is the only person I saw say it."
ReplyDeleteAnd did you drop the Hammer of Mod on him or did you just let it slide?
Should I have even bothered asking?
I didn't say anything because he's the only one that said it. If it spread through the site then I would put a stop to it. When SR first came out and the Apologist moniker started to take hold it was allowed for quite some time. It wasn't until the fighting got really nasty that we asked people to stop using the terms.
ReplyDeleteNobody has used the term on the site since Terminal and he hasn't used it since. If it becomes a problem then I'll deal with it. Trust me, they all know I'm the mod that will say something if you constantly trash Smallville.
"I really hope things run alot more smoothly here again. Plus we can get WB to notice us and get the Film we want to see for superman."
ReplyDeleteWebhead makes a lot of sense. Problem is, Superman fans have split into SV, SR, DCU factions all pulling for THEIR Superman. Then we have others pulling for actors and directors.
To make matters worse, ink is spent picking on other bloggers who aren't worth a word.
Stick to SUPERMAN. Let us go forward. Not back.
"Problem is, Superman fans have split into SV, SR, DCU factions all pulling for THEIR Superman. Then we have others pulling for actors and directors."
ReplyDeleteThis isn't a new thing. It was like this before Singerman came along. The only difference now is that the anti-SV folks now have names and faces they can latch on to and identify with.
Everybody's got a dog in this fight.
"To make matters worse, ink is spent picking on other bloggers who aren't worth a word."
That's the nature of the Internet. Lacking some unifying force (such as a Superman film that honors the character and his history), we're going to tear each other apart. It's part of the game.
"Stick to SUPERMAN. Let us go forward. Not back."
The problem with that is there have been quite a few Supermen lately. Live action, animation, the New Earth continuity, All-Star Superman, etc. Each (except for Singerman) is Superman even if they're not all the same. People are entitled to have favorites.
To paraphrase Orwell: "Some are more 'Super' than others."
ReplyDeleteThe idea of one film unifying the fanbase encourages pandering to every faction and pleasing none of them.
We've got our work cut out for us. Viable stories/reincarnations/interpretations from those who would 'save Superman' have yet to appear on this website.
Wouldn't it be refreshing if they did?
Gee, Storm. Glad to see nothing's changed. You're as constructive as ever. How did that work out last time?
ReplyDelete"Gee, Storm. Glad to see nothing's changed. You're as constructive as ever. How did that work out last time?"
ReplyDeleteYou're the one who's been going around lambasting everyone for no good reason. Why don't you take your "learned storytelling rules" back to your little blog, okay? The adults are talking.
I have read many a fan-fic and written several of my own. There is no place here to have them posted for your "expert" perusal MWW. Not that I would value your biased opinion anyway.
ReplyDeleteThere are several exceptional stories I have read recently that are posted by Scribe at Kryptonsite. It is listed in the adult section, but not all that smutty. There is one she has currently in the works called Trinity that is AWESOME. It has a very good story, lots of action, and you can relate to all the characters. The trinity being Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman. If you want to read something that will knock your socks off and leave you drooling for more, give it a read. I am in no way connected to Scribe, but I am now a fan.
I have tried to read more of MWW story, but still cannot stomach it. I cannot get away from the Clark/Superman is an unaware idiot idea.
Here is an idea...quit trying to shove your story down our throats. If we liked it, we would say so. Your saying we are stupid because we don't agree with your idea, and ranting over and over how great an idea it is isn't going to make us believe it any more than we do now. Another idea...try writing something we can get behind. Use some of the ideas being tossed out there instead of your "New and Improved" idea and take on a 70 year old beloved story.
