Details released regarding Clark's new costume
There has been some confusion regarding Clark's costume that was shown off at Comic Con last week and I just wanted to clear up what kind of costume Clark will be wearing and the role it plays in Smallville this upcoming season.
First off, at Comic Con it was confirmed that the costume is most definitely not a resigned "Superman" costume but rather one of several costumes Clark will be wearing this season as he begans his journey to becoming the Superman we all know and love.
New information was released today by someone on the Krypton forums who claims to have gotten the details while at Comic Con. He wen't on to explain that the black costume shown in the video feed, the leather trenchcoat like costume was given to Kal-El while he works on his training at the Fortress of Solitude with Jor-El. Clark has decided to use the costume outside of the Fortress as well and for a very good reason. Jor-El has added the "S" logo to the costume that will evidently hide Clark's true identity. According to the article, so long as Clark is wearing the training costume, no one will know who exactly he is. How exactly this will work, we'll just have to wait and see.
I cannot confirm if the information is real, however, in the video feed you can see the Superman logo being burned into the costume. I am going to wager and say that this rumor has at least some truth to it if it's not entirely true. As we get closer to the season premiere air date, expect some high resolution photos being released showing off the season premiere and costume in general. I'll make sure to share them here for you guys. Hopefully the Comic Con trailer will be released as well (CW talked about releasing it online soon).

kevin come on can u put me back as an admin webhead will vouch for me
ReplyDeleteThe owner of the site has selected who he wants managing the website for the time being (Kevin and Colors). The decision isn't mind to make.
ReplyDelete[Kevin]
but he said its up to kevin and colors who to manage it when there not around or available say like u and colors are busy on certain days or something
ReplyDeleteI was hearing about this earlier tonight when i was over at the SHH smallville boards. Will be interesting if this is true and i cant wait to see how this plays out if true. As for the black outfit ever since we got this news, i been its just a protosuit/training thing, and isnt his final look, he is likely to maybe make it red/blue mid season, then maybe by end of season to make an outfit more inline to the smallville jlers.
ReplyDeleteThen as for classic look it could happen or it might not happen but tom in something simular it design to it but with different materials at the end of the series be that end of season 9 or if season 10 happens.
I actually am really liking this approach. I understand that they are obviously stalling regarding the Superman costume and Clark flying but still the idea of Clark trying various costumes, has me intrigued.

ya it works for smallville i agree he wouldnt just come right now and put on a pair of blue rights, red underwear, and a cape.
ReplyDeletethat is an igenious idea to have the S sheild his identity, any kevin come on could u not just completely ignore me?
ReplyDeleteSteve has expressed interest in having just me and Colors running the website for the time being. Like I said, I am leaving it entirely up to him and I am going to honor his wishes on this one.

Hey kevin i was just wondering if I can have yours/color's emails?
ReplyDeleteIf the S-logo is actually what protects Clark's identity... THAT'S FREAKING AWESOME!!! It's perfect...
ReplyDeleteThis sounds incredible. Let's hope it is true!
ReplyDeleteYa i guess it will work like that idea folks were thinking of having zatanna have clark wear magic glasses. Heck jorel/fos has done some crazier things like time travel, block out the sun, etc....
ReplyDeletethat is incredibly Brilliant cant beleive i never thought of it.lol been trying to come up with ways in my head to make his disguise plausible for years.lol
ReplyDeleteAll of that sounds fairly logical. I'll take it with a grain of salt for now, however, because after watching a video of the panel, when someone asked them about the whole "how will Clark ever fool Lois if she knows what he looks like without glasses?" question, they gave a rather broad answer "Well we'll have, hopefully, two more years of the show to explore that!" So either they were being coy, or they legitimately haven't quite figured it out yet.
ReplyDeleteIf the info IS true then I'd imagine that the "S" shield generates some sort of energy field that messes with people's perception, producing some sort of mild hypnotic state, or something. Definitely different that "traditional" mythology, but interesting nonetheless. I'm curious as to how it will all play out.
Yea i guess it could work out like if you guys read current Amazing spider-man on how they put in id in the bottle again and why no one knows he is spidey.

ReplyDeleteI'm too lazy to dig up the precise issue just now but there's a Bronze Age issue which pretty much explains how the glasses thing works. It's a bizarre explanation revolving around super-hypnotism being magnified by Clark's glasses. It gave people who met Clark that he was a little thinner, a little more balding and generally not as good looking as Superman. It's a complicated explanation and the comics never referenced it again, as far as I know.
I'll take a "magic" solution from the FOS which accounts for the same thing.
Because, let's face it. There's no way a pair of glasses and a business suit would fool the Daily Planet staff, who are arguably the most observant and detail-oriented people in the entire world. This explanation, if true, satisfies everything.

yup

ReplyDeleteNow that you mention that, I actually do remember reading of such an explanation. And yep, it works for me. Honestly, I think it's about the only thing that could believably work for Smallville at this point. EVERYONE has seen Clark sans glasses; the thinly veiled explanation that the glasses fool everyone because that's the only way they know Clark just doesn't work, and frankly, it'd be rather lazy writing if they just relied on that old convention without addressing the major plot-hole it would leave.
That is so true their for smallville their isnt much options they can logically go with this late in the game now.
ReplyDeleteSeason eight was mostly good but I took issue with a few things. There was some general reconning in a couple episodes that I was really disappointed with (even from the producers who wrote some of the stuff). Also I felt that towards the end of the season, it started getting a little drawn out and boring. I don't blame the producers for the low budget Doomsday fight but I disagree with what they did to Jimmy as well as Davis's human character but if you want to believe the producers, the choice to pen Smallville's Jimmy as not the really Jimmy Olson, was not their choice.
ReplyDeleteDespite a some what rocky season eight, everything we are learning about season nine seems to deliver just what the fans are wanting. It is to early to really say that but if some of these rumors and speculation ends up being true then season nine will, at the very least, start off really strong.
I was originally against bringing back Zod but even his character is looking interesting and I dig the choice of actor. I like the entire direction... so far! There is even word that we might get to see Jor-El this year. Anyways I am hugely excited for the season and I will continue to keep people up to date on any big news surrounding the show.

Yep, indeed. That being said, I can definitely see Clark deciding to wear glasses in his "human clark" persona to add another layer of humanity to himself, to further distance himself from his Superman persona; to plant one more subtle sub-conscious seed to go along with the "hypnotic effect" that the s-shield provides (the explanation to Lois would be as easy as: "Oh yeah, I've always worn contacts, but I'm apparently allergic to this new material they just started making contacts out of now, so I decided to switch back to glasses." A confirmation of Clark's alleged vision impairment with Chloe and that'd be that) but, as I said, it'd just be plain lazy writing to make the glasses the entire basis for his "disguise".
ReplyDeleteFound the super-hypnosis issue. The comic is Superman #330, December 1978 (which was already a red letter month for Superman).

yea i agree to season 8 was overall a pretty goo season. I say between episodes 1-12 were the best with like 2-3 episodes in their not to good like toxic for example. At first the human guise for doomsday was a silly ideal, but overall it turn out to be a good direction to go.
ReplyDeleteAs for the superlana arc at power/requiem that was a dumb move their, and i wonder how dc signed off on that. As for jimmy at first i never saw anything to wrong with a same age range for jimmy in the show it worked for 2 an a half seasons and then we get a wtf ending to him. Saying he was never really comics jimmy, but an older created for show brother to the future comics jimmy.
If they explained it more back in committed it could was worked out better. As for the lack of fight with DD that was probably mostly due to their slashed budget for one thing along with other factors too.
Hopefully season 9 we get some decent fights out of the super powered folks. Also hopefully the producers look back at what made the first half of the season work well and run with that for season 9.
Actually, I can tell you that many of the ideas that it "appears" they are bringing into season nine are ideas that have been circulating the forums a lot so it seems like the producers and writers may actually be reading the forums more now which is great. Season eight was their first season as producers for Kelly and Brian so maybe it was like a warmup for them. I have high hopes for season nine so I hope it doesn't disappoint me. :D
ReplyDelete[Kevin]
well at the con they have said they do look and read forum sites.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they're definitely reading the forums/blogs...They admitted that they read "everything, even the mean stuff". Which is really great. They get a sense for what's working (episodes like Legion) and what doesn't (the Superlana story-arc).
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will see more good then bad this coming season. But in general every season has its fair share of good storylines/episodes, and bad episodes/storylines, we just have to hope its more good then bad.
