When Michael Rosenbaum left Smallville after his 7 year contract was up, many fans were really disappointed by the decision and even thought that the show would be canceled. Michael has stated that he did not want to renew his contract because he was growing bored with Smallville and wanted to pursue other interest (primarily comedy).
However, in the last past year, Michael Rosenbaum hasn't had a whole lot of success outside of very small projects like Peanus which can be found on YouTube. The Smallville producers have tried and tried to get him to return for season eight but had no such luck.
However, recently the Smallville producers have mentioned that they have indeed had dinner with Michael Rosenbaum to negotiate his return to Smallville for season nine in some capacity. Unfortunately the producers had no such luck so far, citing scheduling conflicts as the main reason:
Kelly: You know, we love Rosenbaum. We had dinner with him a couple of weeks ago. We would over the moon to have time work out for his schedule, have him back and visit the show and nothing, I think, would make the cast happier, too. But right now, there’s nothing that’s panning out, but we’re always looking at it.
So while nothing has been confirmed it is now obvious that Michael Rosenbaum was at least willing to sit down and talk about returning to Smallville. Personally I believe that it's only a matter of time before Michael Rosenbaum comes back. I think that if we don't see him in season nine then he will definitely make a return in season ten for at least an episode or two. It's good to know that the producers are still working on getting him to come back. Maybe Michael Rosenbaum will get bored of retirement and finally give in. ;)
So what about you guys? Do you want Michael to return as Lex Luthor or do you prefer the direction Smallville has taken without him?

ReplyDeleteya it will be great if they can convince him to return at least for a 2-3 episode guest spot. Though how they would go about it would be interesting. Will they say the lex blown up was just a clone, will their be a magical way back, etc........
ReplyDeleteIts to bad michael hasnt had much luck in getting other projects off the ground since he left the show. And when he said goodbye to the fans he pretty much has said he would only want to return when the show is at the end and for himself to have certain things. Hopefully things will work out and we get to see him on the show again.
i so badly want Micheal and Laura Vandervoort to return to Smallville!

ReplyDeleteLaura is signed on for V full time so there is a lot less chance of seeing her return on Smallville but I am still hopeful that she will return at some point for at least one episode.

ReplyDeleteyea i bet they will try to get her to do one episode either this season/finale episode be that season 9 or a possible season 10. we know its all about ratings if season 9 is the end or not. Cw pres has said as long as smallville stays at or above its average 3.0million viewers they are happy with the show on fridays.

ReplyDeletewell not really she thought kandor is out in space and it could be, an the whole orb thing is just a connection to an alternate kandor pre krypton blowning up or something since they are doing a younger zod before his future self was sent to the phantom zone,an their was that interview the producers did with voices of krypton talking about parallel dimensions/different time lines that could be playing into effect this coming season.

ReplyDeleteWell, at the very least it has been established that Clark will not fly or wear the real Superman costume until the series finale. Still season nine sounds really good so far even without tights and flights.
