  1. Traffic here is almost NON-EXISTANT these days & I'm kinda surprised that Webhead hasn't commented yet. Anyway, I saw ABSOLUTE JUSTICE.

I enjoyed the episode but the plot seemed like a rip-off of WATCHMEN! Ya know, someone is killing off retired superheroes & thus the investigation to find out who. As for killing them off, I don't see why that was really necessary. I mean, they were just introduced. Why start killing them off, especially the likes of Sandman & Dr. Fate?! Seemed kinda like a waste! And who wants to see punk kids fill their roles?!

It was kinda a lame villain also. I mean, here's this ICEMAN rip-off taking them out one by one & they seemed almost unable to stop him, but then said villain gets 'iced' himself by some no-name bioch. WTF?!

I'd have LOVED for Jay Gerrick's Flash to have actually been present & how that would've been explained in reference to Bart. Alan Scott 'in person' would've been welcome also. However, didn't they skip the whole World War 2 era & had it like it was in the 70's or something?!

  2. I haven't posted here in a very LONNNG TIME, but am taking the time now to offer my "review" of Absolute Justice..

Below I have copied and pasted the content of an email I sent to a friend about the "movie".....

"Just finished watching Smallville, Absolute Justice, and I'm pleased to say my instincts about this excuse for a two hour TV movie was on the money. The first hour and forty-five minutes of boredom, intermingled with what I consider disrespect for DC's Golden Age superheroes. A policy carried over from the Comic book medium wherein the JSA has (traditionally over the years) been repeatedly killed off or turned into decrepit, old men.
In the case of the Smallville movie, Star Man is killed right off the bat..Kent Nelson is portrayed as a blabbering mental case. When he finally dons the helmet and is transformed into Dr Fate, he spends most of the film wasting time aimlessly meandering around, boringly stating the obvious, his pontification presented as mystic monologues, and then he gets killed.

Sandman gets killed off early on, and doesn't even get to squeeze off a shot with his gas-gun.

After the deaths of Star Man and Sandman, nothing else happens for close to an hour and forty five minutes. LITERALLY,... I MEAN NOTHING HAPPENS.

(Surprising for me, Hawkman was the only interesting JSA character, but even his story was on shaky ground.)

The battle that took place near the end of the show was underwhelming to say the least.

None of the other costumed JSA members put in an appearance. No Flash, Green Lantern, Hour Man, Wildcat, or Dr.Mid Night.

Honestly, an hour and forty five minutes,...Nothing happens...Unbelievable.

I've been advocating that TV and films should be enlisting comic book writers to write for superhero genre films and tv shows, but I'm beginning to reassess my position. Jeph Loeb (Comic Book writer) was fired from the TV series "HEROES", and for good reason, and now Geoff Jones (Another Comic Book writer) churns out this lousy Smallville movie and does little to pay homage to DC's Golden Age Heroes, much less produce a decent story. Was he trying to bore everyone to death?????

An hour and forty five minutes of NOTHING HAPPENING...Nothing at all. Just filler. Oh what a genius Geoff Jones is!!! To pad a script with an hour and forty five minutes of nothing.

But the icing on the cake is what content he DID put into the script was utter and complete garbage...I hate Smallville. Tom Welling as a potential big screen Superman is the only redeeming aspect of the show."

  3. Ok, correction here, I referred to the Star Spangled Kid as Star Man..I've checked a few other blogs and can't believe the people giving this "movie event" a thumbs up, it sucked.

  4. Jerry, great to see you post again, especially considering that I thought you were done with this site, or rather it's predecessor.

You make some valid points. I really didn't look at it THAT way. I enjoyed the episode but even I wasn't pleased with how the JSA were being treated right off the bat. Seemed like a collosal waste to start 'icing' the characters before they were even ESTABLISHED. And I don't think anyone can deny that Johns stole the plot DIRECTLY from WATCHMEN! I noticed that probably in the 1st 15 minutes! Couldn't he have come up with a more ORIGINAL plot?

Like I said in the past, I actually LIKED the WATCHMEN film & if you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor & watch the Director's Cut; it's actually better. I just hate that it bombed but it wasn't for a lack of QUALITY! However, for fans who LIKED the film, it gave them HOPE that an ensemble film could actually be pulled off. This gave fans hope that the JLA FILM could eventually be done. Some, like myself, stated that KINGDOM COME would make a great film. I STILL think it would, if DONE RIGHT, that is.

Jerry's comments show how a project like this sometimes just isn't done JUSTICE.

  5. Oh, another thing, this of DEFINITE interest. Dr. Fate, when talking with Clark, referred to LEX LUTHOR in the PRESENT TENSE. Clark replied that Lex was dead. Even through the mask, Dr. Fate shot Clark a look like, 'Yeah, mm-hmm", as if HE knew the truth but didn't tell Clark everything. MY guess is that who they THINK was Lex killed was probably the 'clone angle' because Lex probably anticipated what might transpire, especially with Oliver. And besides, who wants a Superman story without LUTHOR? That is, unless we're talking about SINGERMAN! ;)

  6. I really enjoyed this episode and it really exceeded my expectations. Any shortcomings from this movie was primarily because of budget constraints. There just isn't enough money in the budget to give hear hero a huge battle scene. At least this episode had better special effects and action then we seen in the Doomsday episode. I was quite satisfied with what we ended up getting.

I didn't go in expecting a "Dark Knight" quality production. What I got was a great two hour episode that really beats a lot of the other crap shows on tv these days. I was pleased!

  7. So overall i enjoyed the telemovie alot. IT looked great, the music was pretty good. Acting was solid all around. Loved the nods and the new threat with checkmate/sucide squad. So cant wait to see how this storyline will play out with the rest of the season.

I thought they overall did great, geoff again did well, and the cast and crew were great. Also glad it did well in ratings with 2.6mill for hr1 and 2.94mill for hr 2. So i loved how it all came about.

  8. "I really enjoyed this episode and it really exceeded my expectations."

Just how low a standard are your "expectations"?

"I thought they overall did great, geoff again did well, and the cast and crew were great."

That's hogwash. You know what this reminds me of? It reminds me of all the fawning the "Apologists" made over Superman Returns.

An hour and forty five minutes of NOTHING HAPPENING...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The depictions of the JSA SUCKED..Only Hawkman was of any interest. Dr. Fate (Arguably more powerful than Superman) was reduced to wandering around like a lost puppy spouting common knowledge (to the fans.) which in turned offered nothing new, was mostly useless, and totally boring. The guy can fly and do all kinds of nifty stuff, and he's reduced to being a piece of furniture in a room.

An hour and forty five minutes of Zilch!

I know why the Smallville fans praising this episode.

    They're Smallville fans.

To heck with budget constraints and making excuses for it.

Why is it that "fans" can apply logic and critical evaluation of Superman Returns, break it down and expose everything about it that makes it a bad film, but with Smallville, will just roll over and act like lovesick little girls with eyes all a flutter over what was a piss poor "movie event"

A newspaper editor friend of mine has his own blog, and watches Smallville regularly, (I don't thank God), and below is what he posted regarding the episode.

    "Absolute Justice?" No, "Absolute bore!"
I watched the Feb. 5 "Absolute Justice" Smallville episode and while it was better than I expected with my "smallerville" expectations of the overall TV series lately, it was surprising at the lack of action it featured.
Boring, yes. It was a boring 9.5 on a 1-10 boring scale.
How could you make this 2-hour event and have so little action?
Forget the poor Hawkman costume, or the pitiful treatment of "golden age" DC comics characters. Some daytime TV soap operas contain more non-sexual action than this 2-hour Smallville did. This double-length Smallville had less action than most one-hour Smallville episodes do too!
The only bright spots were the Amanda Waller sub plot and that the Martian Manhunter got his powers back.
And, Clark Kent needs his telescopic vision. He also needs to fly and start using his vast array of powers.
The Amanda Waller angle is intriguing, but the Zod and other Kryptonian plot just needs to go away as quickly as possible. It's boring.

I stopped posting here for other personal reasons, and obviously I'm not the only one to leave this site, and this will be my last post. It just bothers the Hell out of me the double standard being applied when it comes to SR and Smallville. Absolute Justice sucked.

Label me however you want to, I don't care. I'm done with this site.

  9. P.S.

Just so there isn't any confusion, when I said...
"It just bothers the Hell out of me the double standard being applied when it comes to SR and Smallville."
..What I'm stating is that BOTH are bad representations of Superman. Adios.

  10. Jerry, you may not respond to this but I just wonder if you had a 'falling out' with Steve or someone else when it was still the website? It seems like I remember some TROLL you may've had a problem with but it's not been recent so it's not crystal clear. There seems to be some extreme animosity & I don't believe I myself ever offended you & I actually used to look forward to your posts as it was like the voice of reason or whatever.

One thing you ARE right about is the attendance on this site lately, practically non-existant. That's a shame too because with the NEWEST news regarding the FILM franchise, this place should be abuzz & it's not, but go look on another site & the posts are numbering in the hundreds!

I really liked what this site was doing 'back in the day' but it really seems to have died a slow death. Due to the way that things happened with the whole 'Steve & Emi' thingy, it sometimes makes you wonder if even THAT was for real or not.

This IS the Internet, ya know?! :(
