Nolan and Goyer Confirm Involvement on Superman Movie

The LA Times has gotten confirmation from Christopher Nolan and Goyer will indeed be working on the next Superman "reboot". Here are some quotes from the article:

"It's very exciting, we have a fantastic story," Christopher Nolan said while sipping tea in the sleek editing suite that fills the converted garage adjacent to his Hollywood home. "And we feel we can do it right. We know the milieu, if you will, we know the genre and how to get it done right."

Goyer added:

"He basically told me, 'I have this thought about how you would approach Superman,' " Nolan recalled. "I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I've never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way."

  1. I, for one, am anything but reassured by this news.

Anything's better than more Singerman shit though.

  2. "Nolan added, though, that this new movie will stand on its own."

THIS is the best part of the ENTIRE article.

All the fatty's at BlueNuts can quit their whining, methinks:

    BJ is DONE, son!!

  3. And don't forget duh apologists over at duh Homopage. I briefly looked there earlier but as usual, WAY too much reading & appeared to be the usual suck-fest anyway. One of their mods is STILL pining for her 'BJ'.

As for Nolan, I'm sure I know Colors concern, i.e., the whole 'ultra-realistic' universe angle, but apparently David Goyer came up with the idea & pitched it to Nolan & he LOVED it! Maybe there won't be 'World's Finest' but at least I think the film franchise will FINALLY stand a chance at re-capturing past glory. Fingers crossed!

Oh sure, they can but don't hold your breath.

I really don't understand the mania for that guy, I really don't.

"And don't forget duh apologists over at duh Homopage"
This is one thing I've been somewhat interested in. Kinda makes you wonder what's going to happen on the Younis page, eh? Younis and Bailey have both staked a large degree of their credibility (yes yes, they have don't have any credibility anymore but go with me here) on the Singer "franchise". And not even because they necessarily liked the movie but because there was a financial arrangement. Once the reboot gets under way and BJ The Bartender is inevitably shown the door, they'll naturally start supporting the reboot...

... but will their little Gestapo follow them? The Apologists are genuinely committed to Singer's $225 million abortion. For Younis, it's clearly a money thing.

Might we see a bit of a civil war once Younis leaves what's left of the Apologist camp out in the cold?

They can all piss off for all I care but I'd love to see a meltdown in what was the Apologist Haven. Just might be worth unbanning myself to see Younis' little empire crumble.

He turned his back on the real fans years ago and I'd love to see him get his due come uppance.

  5. Expect that little douche-nozzle to act like "nothing happened", and turn his brown-eye towards ANYONE who points it out.

  6. Sad but true but even as much as duh apologists bash Nic Cage for THAT aborted attempt, had it REALLY happened, we'd probably be hearing Cage as Supes instead of ol' BJ. And Eunuch would say it was the best Superman since sliced bread. And as surely as whoever DOES get the role, he'll jump on THAT bandwagon too, with Fagley in pursuit. ;)

  7. Yea its great that finally nolan broke out some details on the reboot and confirming he is indeed on board in what ever his "mentoring" role will entail. I am glad also he pretty much says this will be a new and different story. which is what i want for the dam reboot. So i am glad there.

As for the bit being superman is only hero in his film like batman is for his film. its probably best to do that. Since its not likely wb will have a dc film verse any time soon. Since all the major players are in different stages of production or not in any production from what we fans know.

Which is also simular to martin campbell's plans for green lantern too. So its probably best that they are all in their own worlds for now. Then maybe if said actors are scored to be in a jl movie down the road they have a story that makes its possible for them all to be there.

now i cant wait to see what the story will be. Who they will officially name as director. Then casting for the film. With nolan on board i am sure they can score some good caliber actors for supporting players roles. Also cant wait to we know when they plan to get things into production.

  8. Oh yeah, for those interested I do a Superman blog on lj. This subject has come up a few times, as you can imagine. Check it out, if you're interested.

  9. oh sure i would love for crossovers to happen colors. But with WB not on the same page with all their characters yet. its best to just focus one each character solo first. But leave it open for them to exist in the same world together. if by the time they are ready to do a jl movie and the actors in these films are still going to be said roles.

  10. "oh sure i would love for crossovers to happen colors. But with WB not on the same page with all their characters yet. its best to just focus one each character solo first."
I actually don't believe that. I think doing JLA made a hell of a lot more sense as it would've allowed WB (on a relatively cost-efficient basis) guage the public's interest in certain characters without spending $150 mill on making each of 'em a movie. Then you spin off the popular ones into their own solo franchises.

"But leave it open for them to exist in the same world together."
If Almighty Nolan's remarks are being correctly understood, that's precisely what's NOT happening.

It's interesting. Nolan seems to want Superman to exist into a universe unto himself. He's doing the same thing with Batman.

And hey, lookie here, just a few weeks ago news broke that Clark's cameo had been cut out of the GL movie. And then a few weeks later, Nolan is announced as producer.

    Big fucking coincidence, I'm sure.

Incidentally, can someone tell me why the < u > HTML tag isn't permitted? Banning it is just retarded.

  11. I thought that when WB did the whole new 'DC ENTERTAINMENT' division, the purpose was to get everything on the same page so that they could COMPETE WITH MARVEL! Wasn't that supposed to be the mindset?! So what happened?!

    ReplyDelete
  12. My theory (which is based purely on speculation and little in the way of documented or documentable fact) is that Nolan happened.

  13. well what ever happens i just hope we get some good films for these dc characters. As for the kent cameo in gl that has long been known to probably been cut it was even stated by the writers last yr when the first draft got online. Plus heck not to long ago campbell said he didnt want any other heroes in gl beside gl characters. So right now it does look like WB just want to focus on each character separately.

  14. Interesting. There's hope left for a new superman movie. If it does get made, I hope it relies more heavily on the comics for inspiration. There's a lot of good stories in there worth adapting.

  15. I think we have shared concerns about Nolan & rightfully so. However, with that being said, I think we'll still get a top-notch film that not only will be big budget AND big quality but will also hit it out of the ballpark at the box office, & I don't mean JUSTIFYING the box office the way that duh apologists do when comparing Singerman to Batman Begins. Here's why:

1)TRUE REBOOT: No more Singerman, & no more DONNERVERSE either. Incidentally, Nolan was inspired by Donner's original film even in the making of Begins. He said as much, i.e., the supporting cast, how that THAT film had all these big-name actors in supporting roles, which as you know is what Nolan did with Begins, but it worked. Now Christian Bale was ALSO well known but you get the point. Nolan will no doubt have Goyer write it & will also get a COMPETENT director who GETS the character & THEN get a supporting cast that will be dynamite! In other words, Nolan will do his OWN thing. No doubt an ENTIRELY new vision for the film franchise. I for one will be glad if we no longer see a FROZEN crystallized Krypton & real estate schemes. But what about the MAIN role?

    2) ACTOR PLAYING SUPERMAN: The downside here is that Tom Welling will not even be considered for this film AT ALL. Back to Nolan doing his OWN vision. However, what we WON'T get is another BJ Routhman! I know Nolan had Bale work out & everything to be considered physically realistic for Batman. Without a doubt he'll REALLY want a physical specimen for Supes! Someone believable! With stature & presence! So even though we won't get Welling, we will get SOMEONE that fills the boots. And you KNOW Nolan will take THIS aspect deadly seriously.

    3) THE STORY ITSELF: We WON'T get crap like 'the kid' & emo Singerman. We ALSO won't get someone trying to pass off their *AHEM* lifestyle onto the production of the film like Singer did. THIS Supes will be a man's man but he won't LIKE men! As for the plot, I don't know what Goyer came up with but it sounded like a take on Supes that's never been done before & for it to have grabbed Nolan like it did it must've been impressive. I know the whole realistic angle BUT.....for Nolan to even consider it, it must've really been an attention grabber!

SO.....a solid cast, plot, script, director, etc., etc., & a big-budget spectacle that will put Donner's film to shame, & I believe we may be in business. FINALLY! :)

  16. well yea nolan likes to do things in a realistic manner. But he knows superman and batman are two different characters. So i doubt they will turn superman into a ultra realistic thing. I am sure they will and i hope embrace the scifi/fantasy aspect of the character.

    Agreed, agreed and agreed again.

The Byrne Age is full of awesome stories. If they're using Byrne's MOS for inspiration, I'll be somewhat mollified.

  18. Hey, get this! I posted a 'Eunuch' comment over on Youtube last night on his "Speeding Bulletin' vid. I did so under my Youtube ID. It was still on there even earlier today. Well, guess what?! It's no longer there AT ALL! It doesn't even say it was removed, it's just gone. When I tried to post a follow-up, it didn't take my comment!

Anyone want to fill me in on this? I know he censors & bans left & right on duh Homopage, but how can he do this on Youtube? That doesn't make any sense! Also, when he reported on Nolan's involvement, it appeared to me that he rolled his eyes when he got through talking about it. I guess Nolan hasn't won HIM over yet?!

Of course it didn't. It probably never will again. You didn't toe the party line so you're out. It's how he handles things. If he was an American, I'd say the motherfucker would make a great Democrat some day.

"Also, when he reported on Nolan's involvement, it appeared to me that he rolled his eyes when he got through talking about it. I guess Nolan hasn't won HIM over yet?!"
I think that was for the benefit his Apologist flock. This Nolan stuff still hasn't gotten off the ground yet. As far as I know, there's no finished script, no director, no cast, no budget, no greenlight, no shooting, no nuthin! This thing could in theory fall apart any time. He doesn't want to alienate the Apologists just yet by pitching his support behind something that may very well never happen.

He knows which side his bread is buttered on; in my view, he's probably not going to cut the Apologist douchenozzles loose until he's got some kind of deal worked out with the new production. Perhaps another set visit? Or a location tour?

This isn't a done deal yet, but if and when it is, I imagine he'll cut the Apologists loose to support the reboot.

That's how pricks like him roll.

  23. Well, it is Hollywood. I suppose the guy needs to at least try and save face. "The movie just didn't play to my strengths as a filmmaker." The guy can say whatever he wants now, I don't care. The only facts that matter anymore are as follows:

    Singer? Gone.
BJ The Bartender? 99% probably gone (as Apologists everywhere gnash their teeth).
    Franchise? Rebooted.

I'm nowhere near sold on the reboot quite yet. Still, you have to admit we have nowhere to go but up after Singerman.

Anyway. Who do you see as playing the REAL Superman?

  26. Don't think for a SECOND that WB will use ANY actor from Singerman Peeps in the reboot. It's all about the "$green$", and BJ has proven in the 5 years since he strapped-on his muscle-suit that he doesn't have "it".

As for who I think will play him? I think they will follow Marvel Films and cast a "kind of" name in the role, surrounded by big name actors.
