Lex talk just won't die

It seems like everyone is jumping on the Lex train lately. Rumors have been swarming regarding Lex Luthor's return since before Comic Con with the producers officially saying that they are working on him coming back but have been unable to work out a schedule with him just yet.

Today, TV Guide has a little blurb on Michael Rosenbaum possibly coming back to Smallville:

My scoop on Smallville? — Liam
MICKEY: When CW President Dawn Ostroff told the crowd at the fall TV previews Tuesday that Michael Rosenbaum could return to the show in the future, but probably wouldn't this season, I swear she was holding something back. So I checked in with a few of my favorite red-and-blue blurs, and they told me that we will be seeing more of Lex in future episodes. What do you think? Is this a trick?

So that seems to be where things stand for the time being. My opinion is that Michael will indeed come back eventually for at least a partial season or perhaps a couple episodes. Before that happens, however, I believe that the producers will do stuff in Smallville which causes Clark and company to began to wonder if Lex is really dead or not which will lead up to Michael actually returning as Lex Luthor. Just my speculation of course.

  1. I agree i can see things playing out that way, or they can say the lex we saw in requiem was not the real lex but just a clone like the lana clone a few yrs back or the others we have see through the course of the series. I think that would be the best way to bring michael back.

Hopefully the producers and michael can work soemthing out. And we get to see michael return for at least 2-3 episodes. But if it doesnt happen this season, and we get a 10th it will probably be towards the end of the season/last episodes of the series. Though they should start throwing out the seeds throughout this season that lex isnt dead just to start up a plot.

  2. I think it isn't a matter of "if" but more of a matter of "when". Michael Rosenbaum doesn't really have anything going for him right now (as far as I know). The fact that he was willing to sit down with the producers to negotiate working around his schedule (whatever that might be) shows that he is willing to come back. I am even willing to say that he may be willing to come back for more then just one or two episodes but perhaps for half a season or even an entire season (season ten perhaps?). Really there isn't any really for Michael to turn this down. I see no benefits for him as an actor to continue to deny his return to Smallville where all of his fans are. At least not unless he can find better work which he hasn't been able to so far.

As for the Lex plot, it would be nice if they could play out a different story then the generic clone story that has already been done. Let's hope they can be a little more creative then that.

They may even wait until season ten and kill off Tess to bring Lex back (budget reasons of course).
